I like to say that I was impressed by the professionalism of the Famoco team. You could tell they have clearly an in-depth knowledge of the development of point of sale.
About GhIPSS
The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS) is a subsidiary of the Central Bank of Ghana. Its mission is to implement and manage interoperable payment system infrastructures for banks and non bank financial institutions in Ghana.
E-zwich is a payment distribution system based on a biometric smart card. It provides a secure method for organizations to
pay its beneficiaries on their e-zwich smart cards, while the receiver authenticates with its fingerprint. It is used for the distribution of salaries, pensions and loans.
Gh-link™ Network is a domestic debit card scheme enabling accredited financial institutions to issue domestic EMV cards (based on Thalès PURE® technology) that are accepted nationwide.
Deploying an in-country payment scheme benefits the national economy:
– Lower transactions cost of electronic payments
– Facilitate the design of financial services suited for local needs
– Minimize outflows of foreign currencies
GhIPSS operational challenges
GhIPSS was searching for a technology partner to develop a single POS, and software application compliant with e-zwich biometric cards and gh-link EMV cards. Turning to Android opens GhIPPS infrastructure to third-party applications, which was not the case with legacy POS solutions.
GhIPSS chose Famoco because:
– We are Android experts and we helped GhIPPS to design and develop an EMV L3 application for gh-link.
– We are hardware experts and we provide the FP202, a POS featuring biometric, contact/contactless & QR code interfaces on a single device.
– Merchants can add more business apps to their POS to expand their business services and boost their sales.
